Awareness and engagement of Belarusians into the activities of CSOs and non-formal initiatives

In November-December 2016 Office for European Expertise and Communications and Baltic Internet Policy Initiative conducted the research “Awareness and engagement of Belarusians into the activities of CSOs and non-formal initiatives”.

According to the results of the research, 59% (out of 2011 respondents) are aware of civil society organizations (CSOs) and informal initiatives in Belarus. Only 6,3% declare their active participation in CSOs’ activity.

Trade unions, youth and sports organizations were mentioned more often than regional and local development initiatives as well as scientific organizations.

The main reasons for participation in the activity of a public organization and initiatives among the respondents are common values, interesting projects and clear goals of the organizations.

More information (presentation and infographics in Russian) you can find here. Unfortunately, we did not translate the full version of the 2016 survey in English, but we have an English translation for the 2018 survey.

The research was conducted by Office for European Expertise and Communications and Baltic Internet Policy Initiative for their own funds.
